A 13-year-old girl is recovering after she was bitten by a dog in a parking lot at Saputo Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Animal control inspector Markus Garcia of Berger Blanc said the animal could be considered a ‘pit bull-type dog’ under the city's new legislation.

According to police, the dog had no identification, no tags and no collar. Animal control officials are seeking the dog's owner, who could face fines or possible charges.

A witness told CTV Montreal the dog appeared out of nowhere and bit the teen. The witness said he kicked the dog off the girl, who was with her soccer team headed to the stadium when the incident happened.

Police were called to the scene, and said the girl was bit in the top part of her hamstring and had to be taken to hospital.

The dog has been taken in by Berger Blanc. They say they believe the dog is mostly a boxer but could have some pit bull mixed in – enough to fit the definition of ‘pit bull-type dog’ as used by the city of Montreal.

If in five days the dog’s owner is not found or does not come forward action will be taken, said Garcia.

“The dog will be checked by our vet depending on his aggressiveness and on his health,” he said. “We can place him to adoption if he has no signs of aggressiveness or else if he is too dangerous and actually he might be put down.”
