MONTREAL - They were the hip places of our past, but now, just like those meals, they’re gone.

Journalist Kristian Gravenor argues that Montreal has become known for its cusine and therefore some of its lost landmark eateries should be recreated in some form of museum.

Those fondly-remembered joints include Ben's which survived until 2006, an old style deli that served patrons well into the wee hours.

Others might remember the Polynesian extravaganze of the Kon Tiki in the Mount Royal Hotel, where just about every drink looked like a volcano or came with a tiny umbrella.

Other long-lost eateries might not longer be serving up meals and snacks but still feed our urban memories.
