MONTREAL - William Watson says that there's a common thread amongst the Liberal Party's rivals: all are offering highly-interventionist spending packages, which could lead to some economic misadventure.

The McGill economics professor said that Quebec Solidaire's program would turn the Quebec economy to something that looks like the Greek economy, as it has plenty of spending with few ideas of how to raise revenues.

The Parti Quebecois would return Quebec to the constitutional quarrels and higher taxes that helped lead the province to the high-unemployment rates seen in the mid-90s, according to Watson.

He expressed some surprise that CAQ leader Legault has committed himself to a complicated and interventionist plan after presenting himself as a candidate of the right.

Those who want business to thrive will be forced to stick with the Liberals, he contended.
