Every day countless people are injured in accidents, but many of them are situations that could easily have been prevented.

Dr. Tarek Razek is the director of Adult Trauma at the McGill University Health Centre, and he says the term 'accident' is misleading.

"It's a word we don't actually like to use because it gives the wrong connotation to the issue. Most of these events are completely preventable," said Dr. Razek.

"You can take even the average motorcycle crash, involving a pedestrian, a cyclist and the motor vehicle and the individuals driving that, and there's circumstances surrounding these events, there's almost always something that could have been avoided."

Beginning on October 17 McGill's medical centre will be holding a series of seminars to explore the trauma and emergency response system.
