MONTREAL - The weeks are winding down until CTV Montreal launches its news broadcast from a new studio, unlike any the station has reported from in its 50 year history.

CTV Montreal's elegant new digs are ready to shine at noon on September 6, 2011.

Countless hours of painstaking planning is done. Technicians have figured our which wire goes where; consoles have been attached, windows installed.

The new elements to be rolled out include a giant plasma screen, a dedicated interview area and windows onto the street.

The storefront location, at street level in the same building, will allow people to look out and in, breaking down the barrier between the broadcast and the street.

"We wanted to have various elements that I could shoot within the show so that it will not always look the same way and so the viewer will be more visually stimulated," says Dave Maynard, Operations Manager/Chief Director at CTV. "We're looking for a new look, a different way of doing the program."

As well, the studio is HD-ready, so when CTV Montreal goes high-definition in 2012, viewers will enjoy even more detail.

"Viewers are going to see a crisper, cleaner image and a much more contemporary looking program," says Maynard.

The old studio has been donated to Concordia University's Journalism Department.
