Police have arrested a 46-year-old motorcycle rider after he hit a Hydro-Quebec pole in Ste. Marthe sur la lac.

The incident began at 2:15 a.m. Thursday when police spotted the rider speeding along Route 344 in Deux-Montagnes, a suburb north of Montreal.

The rider tried to flee, and after a short chase lost control and hit the pole.

He was taken to hospital with minor injuries and is expected to be released from medical care on Thursday.

Meanwhile the man was charged with dangerous driving, evading police, and carrying a prohibited weapon. He is expected to be arraigned in court on those charges as soon as he is able.

Officers say they have encountered the man on many previous occasions.
