Chateauguay police evacuated several buildings near Crepin St. and Clermont St. Wednesday morning while they investigated a bomb threat.

Around 6:30 a.m. someone phoned 9-1-1 to report a bomb being placed at a mosque in the mostly-residential neighbourhood.

Officers arrived to find a suspicious package on the front doorstep and they immediately cordoned off the area.

12 buildings were evacuated, although nobody was in the building that was threatened.

The Surete du Quebec bomb squad arrived several hours later and at 9:40 a.m. "neutralized the package" according to Chateauguay police, allowing neighbours to return to their homes.

Police did not say whether the package was, in fact, an explosive device or not.

This is the first time this mosque has been threatened.
