The city of Montreal has launched a new program to make commercial buildings accessible to people with disabilities and others with low mobility.
A total of $1.6 million will be spent over five years to add wider doors that open automatically and wheelchair ramps.
The city says it will be able to fund about 40 projects a year.
Advocates for the disabled, however, say that's hardly enough considering that 60 per cent of buildings in the city are not currently accessible to the disabled.
