Many of Canada's richest citizens saw their wealth shrink this past year, but Montreal's multi-millionaires were a notable exception.

Canadian Business magazine has compiled its list of the richest 100 people in the country, from the Thomson family with a net worth of $21.3 billion to Nova Scotia's Jodrey family ($559 million in assets).

Montreal's Saputo family, notable for a cheese empire and ownership of the Montreal Impact, is number five on the list with $4.3 billion, up 23.5 percent in the past year.

Also on the list are Alain Bouchard of Laval, whose investments in Couche-Tard have made him the 86th wealthiest person in the country. Serge Godin of Montreal's CGI group is making his debut on the list at number 93.

Rounding out the top five are Galen Weston, the face of Loblaws with $8 billion, the Irving family of New Brunswick with $7.8 billion, the Rogers family with $5.9 billion, and fourth is Vancouver's Jim Pattison with $5.7 billion.
