Montreal police have been called in to investigate a police intervention Saturday night that left a 37-year-old man in critical condition.

The incident began when SQ provincial police were called at 10:15 p.m. Saturday to deal with a man on Principale St. in Ste. Agathe des Monts.

During the intervention the man's heart stopped but he was brought back to life by ambulance staff, Montreal police reported Sunday.

No other information was immediately transmitted concerning the cause of the police intervention.

Police initially feared for the man's life but now say that he is expected to survive.

As is custom, an outside police force - this time Montreal - was called on to investigate the circumstances of a police interaction which leads to death or grievous harm.

Ste. Agathe sits in the Laurentians about 100 km north of Montreal and is home to about 10,000 residents.
