MONTREAL - Steven Herskovitz saves lives at work and also tries to do the same while at play.

Herskovitz is an Emergency Room doctor who devotes much of the profits from his musical career to helping improve conditions in Africa.

Profits from his new 9-song collection 'My Mountain" will be earmarked for the Dignitas International charity, a leader in global health solutions concentrating mainly in Africa.

“I feel that more help can be provided on a global level, which is why I chose an organization that is in Africa. I want to make a difference not only on a local level, but on a global level,” said Herskovitz .

Herskovitz , who volunteered in Tanzania a decade ago, has many admirers backing him, in the form of his band mates.

“It’s fabulous, somebody going beyond what they normally do,” said musician Bob Stagg. “I think it’s great.”

Herskovitz ’s fellow medic and musician David Kaminester says that his compassion shines through in his songs.

“He hears music in a beautiful way and he's able to dissect a song to its component parts and points out things to me that I didn't hear myself, so in a way he really taught me how to listen to a song,” said Kaminester.

Herskovitz said that even with busy lives we can find time to help others.

“If you believe in something or you are passionate about something, don’t wait for a better time to do it, try to create at the same time and make it a priority,” he said.
