Montreal’s elected officials have unanimously agreed to ask the province to change their pension plan in order to have it funded equally by themselves and the city.

Previously the city councillors, borough councillors and borough mayors only paid for 23 percent of their pensions.

Mayor Coderre asked the provincial Municipal Affairs Minister to adjust it to fall into line with the same changes they have asked other municipal employees to adhere to.

“It’s important for the elected officials to lead by example,” said Coderre.

The motion was forwarded by David Belanger and seconded by Anne Bergeron and passed unanimously Tuesday afternoon.
