A truck carrying tar spilled its load early Tuesday morning on Notre Dame St.

The truck's trailer overturned at the intersection of Notre Dame and De Lorimier St. around 6:15 a.m., dumping an estimated 5,700 litres of tar on the roadway.

Police closed the eastbound lanes of Notre Dame St. while firefighters attempted to find a way to clean up the hot mess, but fortunately the tar is unlikely to spread.

Towing crews also went to the area to get the trailer back on its wheels.

Nobody was hurt, and so far nobody knows what caused the tip over.
