The latest in a series of Montreal-area armoured truck robberies has security guards renewing cries to pass legislation to make three-men crews mandatory.

In the latest heist, a pair of masked men walked into the Royal Bank at Van Horne and Victoria and tied up a janitor and then waited inside to ambush the Garda truck employees at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

It's the sixth such theft in the Montreal-area over the last 12 months.

“They left the scene from the back of the shopping mall and left (in) a vehicle in an unknown direction,” said Montreal Police Cst. Raphael Bergeron.

Police have no description of the men, nor their getaway vehicle.

The union representing the guards is once again lamenting Garda’s decision to reduce the number of employees working on cash deliveries from three to two, saying it puts people’s lives at risk.

None of the three people held captive were harmed, but they were treated for shock.

It was not known how much money the thieves made off with.
