A trio of burglaries in Roxboro has left a charity organization in the hole for about $10,000

"It makes me feel like why are we doing this? We are doing this job for the people and they turn around and come and rob us?" asked Claudine Campeau of the West Island Assistance Fund, a group that has helped out people in need since 1966.

The facility near Gouin and 11th Ave. was broken into for a first time in an attack which yielded no loss. The second invasion cost the group $5,000 in cash. The thieves left empty-handed in a third attack but the cost of repairs amounted to $5,000, bringing the cost of the three burglaries to around $10,000.

Campeau said that those who suffered are bound to be the least well off. "Every year I put $8,000 aside from my budget for day camp for children but because there's no more money, I'll have to cut 20 children who won't be able to go to day camp, this year," said Campeau.

The organization - which hands out around $300,000 in food and other aid to the needy each year - is at a loss. Campeau says that their next will be to install bars to protect the windows of the premises.
