Due to the high volume of children seriously injured in car accidents, the trauma department of the Ste-Justine hospital is calling for the verification of child car seats.

In a statement, the hospital said more than 1,100 children under the age of 10 are killed or seriously injured each year in the province in road accidents and often, those tragedies are due to child seats being poorly installed.

According to studies, a well-installed seat can reduce the risk of death in a crash by 70 per cent.

The department, in collaboration with CAA-Quebec, is holding a car seat verification clinic in Brossard on Sunday in the parking lot of Clement store at 8680 Leduc Blvd.

According to the statement, of 64 checks performed at their last clinic, 35 car seats required adjustments.
