A man in his 20s has died after losing control of his car while driving in a rural area on the South Shore late Friday.

The man was travelling south on Route 221in St. Cyprien de Napierville, about 46 kilometres south of Montreal, around 11:50 p.m., according to Sgt. Audrey-Anne Bilodeau of the Surete du Quebec.

He lost control of his car while passing another vehicle and the slid into a ditch.

The man was alone in the car. He was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Speed and road conditions may have been factors in the crash, Bilodeau said.

It was raining at the time of the accident.
