The search for a man whose car was stolen during an Amber Alert entered its fifth day Monday.

Yvon Lacasse, 71, was last seen Thursday evening, when his car was stolen from a rest stop in Lachute.

His 2006 Honda CRV was then driven to Rouyn-Noranda, to Maniwaki, and to Ontario by a man accused of killing his wife abducting his son, and stealing Lacasse's vehicle.

Lacasse is 1.67 m tall and weighs 70 kg (5'6", 155 lbs). He is bald with brown eyes. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 9-1-1.

Over the weekend, nearly 500 volunteers combed the woods near Lachute, but the search is becoming more difficult.

On Monday, police began patrolling the length of Route 117 from Mont Tremblant to Rouyn-Noranda for traces of the missing man.

Police believe it's possible Lacasse was kidnapped and taken north, or dropped off far from civilization during the 24-hour-long Amber Alert.

"That's why today we're not asking for any volunteers, because first of all, the 117 is very dangerous, so we can't park and search," said SQ officer Marc Tessier.

"If we find some evidence or something like that and we need some volunteers at that time we're going to let the public know our need."

His family members say they are desperate to find him.

“Each day going on, it's worse. It's worse each day,” said family member Yves St-Denis, who by chance had driven the same stretch of Route 117 last week. “It's a very long road, woods each side, lakes... only that.”

The route between Rouyn-Noranda and Lachute is 600 kilometres long.

“They are realistic (the news) may be the worst, but they still have a little hope,” said St-Denis.

Person of interest sought

The SQ has also released a composite sketch of another witness who was reportedly seen with the suspect in Rouyn-Noranda on the night of Sept. 15. Police say the individual is around 40 years old, stands approximately 1.67m and weighs 100 kg (5'6", 220 lbs) with brown hair and blue eyes.

“The person of interest he could be involved in what happened in St-Eustache, so that's why we're still looking for him,” said Tessier.

The six-year-old boy who was the subject of the Amber Alert was placed in the care of Ontario's Social Services Ministry.

His father is in medical custody in Ottawa after attempting suicide following his arrest.

He has been charged with the second-degree murder of his wife.
