LOS ANGELES -- A sheriff's spokeswoman says Marion "Suge" Knight got into an argument with two men at a film shoot and was asked to leave before he allegedly hit them with his pickup truck a couple miles away.

Nicole Nishida said Friday that detectives are trying to determine what precipitated the hit-and-run incident and how it occurred near a fast-food restaurant in Compton, near Los Angeles.

A 55-year-old man died at a hospital, and a 51-year-old man was injured. His condition was not released.

Knight is a former music mogul who created one of hip-hop's leading labels and became the impresario of gangster rap. He turned himself and was booked on suspicion of murder.

His attorney says the crash was an accident that happened as Knight was being physically assaulted.
