Firefighters from Quebec City will arrive in Kamloops, B.C. Tuesday evening and spend the next two weeks fighting fires in that province.

They are some of the 400 firefighters from across the country heading to the B.C. interior to battle the dozens of wildfires raging in the province.

Forty firefighters, two crew leaders, and a representative from SOPFEU, Quebec's forest fire fighting agency, will spend 17 or 18 days there.

"We're working with the Canadian inter-agency forest fire centre, so every time a province or a territory here in Canada needs help, they can make a request to the CFC for resources or equipment," said Emilie Begin of SOPFEU.

"That's what B.C. has done for the past few days. They asked us for equipment and resources and we're sending them. This happens quite often."

Once the crew lands in Kamloops, which is south of the worst fires, they will spend a day being briefed about the situation before being dispatched to wherever they are needed.

About 3,000 firefighters from B.C. have been battling fires for weeks, and this week replacement crews have arrived from as far off as Australia.

Crews from the Canadian Armed Forces and the RCMP are also battling the fires.
