A large police operation is taking place in the Laurentians after residents of Prevost began complaining about a strong odour of gasoline overnight.

Around 11:15 p.m. Monday the Surete du Quebec set up a perimeter around a house on Louis-Morin St. in the town of Prevost, about 45 minutes north of Montreal.

Firefighters and police officers worked during the night and were still present after dawn broke -- although police would not say exactly what they were doing.

Audrey-Anne Bilodeau of the provincial police force would only say that the public was in no danger.
