Police will not press charges against a 59-year-old woman who struck a 93-year-old man with her car early Monday morning in Cote des Neiges.

The woman was brought in by police after the incident for questioning related to the possible hit-and-run but she explained that she had spoken to police following the incident and was given the impression that she was free to go.

The woman reportedly does not speak English or French and the language barrier might have led to a misunderstanding, a police representative told CTV Montreal Monday evening.

Police ticketed the woman but she will not face criminal charges.

The woman was apprehended at her home about two hours after she drove her car into the 93-year-old pedestrian walking at the intersection of Barclay Ave. and Lavoie St.

The elderly man is in critical condition with severe head trauma. It is not certain that he will survive his injuries, according to police.
