A pizzeria in Little Italy caught fire overnight, but the janitor was able to alert authorities before it got out of hand.

The fire began at 3:50 a.m. at Elio's Pizzeria, located at 351 Bellechasse St., on the corner with St. Denis St.

The janitor called 9-1-1 when he smelled smoke, and firefighters were able to put out the fire in about 30 minutes before it got out of hand.

They inspected the roof and the rest of the building in their search for the cause, and believe it was an electrical fault in the kitchen that sparked the fired.

Damage is estimated at $30,000.
