A teenager was arrested after a street race between two drivers who crashed into a pair of motorcyclists.

Police said that late Tuesday evening two cars were racing south along Pie IX Blvd. when one driver ran into two motorcycles near Mont Royal Ave.

One rider, a man in his fifties, was seriously hurt while the other rider, a woman about the same age, was also hurt. Both were taken to hospital and are expected to survive.

Only one of the car drivers stopped, and a Montreal police officer on patrol who witnessed the collision arrested the 18-year-old.

That teenager was interrogated overnight and released around 4:30 a.m. He will likely face charges of dangerous driving causing injury.

Police are still searching for the other driver involved in the street race, and hope to provide a description of his vehicle.
