A 28-year-old motorcyclist has died after crashing on St. Denis St.

The rider lost control of his vehicle at 8:50 p.m. Monday and rode into a sidewalk terrasse between Ontario St. and de Maisonneuve Blvd.

He was taken to hospital but died several hours later of his injuries.

The violence of the collision knocked a heavy flower pot into the street.

The man was one of two riders heading south on St. Denis St. in the Latin Quarter when it happened, said Const. Dany Richer of the Montreal police.

The other motorcyclist and witnesses, of which there were many, spoke to police to help determine how the crash happened.

St. Denis St. was closed for several hours while police investigated.
