A motorcycle rider was badly hurt Thursday morning after a collision with a car on the South Shore.

The impact happened at 1:15 a.m. on Taschereau Blvd. at the intersection with Panama Ave.

At this point it is not certain if the rider was heading west from Auteuil Ave to Panama Ave. when the driver made a left-hand turn onto Taschereau, or if the rider was heading north on Taschereau when the car driver went east onto Auteuil. In the second scenario one person would have gone through a red light.

The rider, a man in his thirties, slammed into the rear passenger door in an impact so severe the motorcycle's front forks snapped off.

The rider was taken to hospital with serious injuries but is expected to recover.

Police closed the intersection for several hours while they examined the wreckage to determine what happened.
