A day after an alleged drug lab in Dorval was raided, police and Health Canada officials in hazmat suits are investigating several other locations connected to the illegal operation.

On Saturday, a drug lab in Dorval that was allegedly producing fentanyl was raided by the anti-gang unit of the SPVM’s organized crime division.

Eric Tremblay, 41, has been charged with drug trafficking and production.

One of the locations searched was an abandoned store in Montreal-North that police say Tremblay was known to frequent. Officials wearing full hazmat suits examined the property for dangerous chemicals before giving police the all-clear to execute a search warrant.

“We thought that there may be chemicals inside,” said an SPVM spokesperson on why. “We didn’t take any chances.”

According to SPVM, the Dorval site is the first fentanyl lab found in Quebec thus far.

Tremblay’s Laval home was among the locations being searched on Sunday.

Fentanyl, a potent painkiller, is the source of concern for health officials following a rash of deadly overdoses, including three in Quebec City.

“If you overdose either by taking too much or it or by taking too strong of a dose that your body is not us to, the risk will be that you stop breathing,” said family physician Pierre-Paul Tellier. “Your heart will stop and eventually, you’ll die.”

Police also searched two other locations in Sainte-Eustache and did not rule out the possibility of further raids or arrests.
