Two men are due in court Wednesday to face charges of exporting embargoed equipment to Iran.

Michael Allen, 67, lives in Montreal and Hugo Dreckmann, 75, is from Dollard des Ormeaux. Both were recently arrested by the RCMP.

The police force says the men, who are the directors of Romic Marc Rail in St. Lazare, conspired to send railway equipment to Iran between 2007 and 2012.

Canada has multiple economic sanctions against Iran in an effort to thwart the middle east country's nuclear weapons program, and that includes restrictions on importing goods from and exporting materials to Iran.

The RCMP says the men did not say they were bringing items into Canada from Iran, and did not disclose what kinds of material were being exported to Iran.

"On the form that says where your merchandise is from, they lied, they didn't say the right country of origin, so that's the first part of the offense, and the other one would be actually shipping them," said Camille Habel of the RCMP.

The investigation was triggered when the Canada Border Services Agency seized a cargo of train equipment in 2010 that was destined for Iran.

Habel said that during the five years under investigation, the two men handled nearly $10 million worth of goods and equipment
