Montreal's Inspector General says the city should throw out several contracts awarded by the Jean Drapeau Park Society for the city's 375th anniversary.

Denis Gallant appeared before a special committee at city hall Thursday after his office found four contracts awarded at the Park in the past two years were illegal, and there were "major irregularities" with eight others.

Daniel Blier, the head of the Park, was also called to appear before the committee.

Earlier this week Mayor Denis Coderre said Blier should be fired, but Gallant would not comment on what he thought should happen.

The Society is not overseeing the reconstruction projects directly. Instead it handed the task to the non-profit Quartier International de Montreal (QIM) at a cost of $1,000,000.

Four of the contracts, worth a total of $7.75 million, are not yet completed and were apparently awarded without public tenders.
