One man is dead after his pickup truck was pinned under a transport truck in St-Mathieu-de-Beloeil.

Police say a mechanic took a transport truck he recently repaired for a test drive along Nobel Street. around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. After turning out of the Camions Lussicam shop, he was rammed by a 49-year-old man in a pickup.

The mechanic says he saw the pickup truck coming down the road, but decided that he had enough time to exit the lot since the pickup truck was a distance away. Upon impact, the pickup truck got pinned under the wheels of the truck.

Fire fighters rescued the pickup truck driver, who was rushed to Charles Lemoyne Hospital. The man died of his injuries. Police say that speed was likely a factor. The speed limit in that area is 70 km/h and the pickup truck’s speedometer was stuck at 120km/h.

Police said the autopsy will determine whether alcohol was a factor.

The mechanic was not injured and the road re-opened at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
