An attempted murder committed over 20 years ago in Laval might finally be solved thanks to new technology.
On Wednesday, Laval police said they have arrested 50-year-old Sylvain Belisle for the 1995 stabbing of a Quebec correctional officer.
The crime in question was committed on Aug. 11 of that year when the officer was stabbed in his sleep by a home intruder.
In a statement, police said new technology was used to analyze evidence that was seized at the time and was used to identify Belisle.
Belisle was known to police and had a criminal record for breaking-and-entering. He appeared at the Laval courthouse on Wednesday afternoon and is facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and breaking-and-entering.
