The Lester B. Pearson School Board said it is expecting an audit of its International Program to begin in the new year.

Chair Suanne Stein Day said the board had talked to UPAC about the investigation into the International Program, and with the provincial government about the audit that was announced at the end of November.

"We were the one who approached UPAC and the ministry about the irregularities and welcome their input to get to the bottom of everything. Perhaps they'll find things we did not find but we'll give them all of our findings to date and hopefully we'll demonstrate the responsible management of the school board in bringing them in and moving them forward," said Stein Day at the final board meeting of the year.

In recent months the Lester B. Pearson board has been rocked by scandals involving the International Program and Stein Day.

An ethics commissioner found the chair of the board had repeatedly violated the board's ethical guidelines.

That has prompted many people to demand Stein Day resign, including a representative of the school board's professionals who said the ethical issues are damaging the reputation of the board.

Stein Day reiterated Monday that she does not think she has done anything worthy of her resignation.

Meanwhile the board has also been under fire for its International Program and fees that student paid a recruiter.

Stein Day repeated Monday that the board has severed ties with that overseas recruiter, and a note on the board's website urges students to pay tuition directly to the board, and not to any third party.
