Firefighters say that vapours from a newly-varnished floor combined with a lit pilot light to cause a blaze which left considerable damage at a home on Westminster Ave. Monday at about 10 p.m.

The fire started when vapours from chemicals used to a resurface floor caught flame due to a pilot light at 5791 Westminster in Cote St. Luc.

The fire at the single family home was brought under control at about 2 a.m.

Nobody was hurt in the blaze.
