Fire forced about 100 people from their apartments in Pointe Claire late Saturday night.
The fire started in the kitchen of an apartment on the third floor of a building at 55 Lakeshore Rd.
More of the residents got out safely but firefighters had to rescue three people from their balconies after they were trapped by the smoke.
It took about an hour and a half to put out the fire, which was contained to the apartment where it started.
Most residents were allowed back into their homes by about 2 a.m. Sunday.
