A fire forced the evacuation of more than 120 people from a seniors residence in Lachine overnight.

The fire broke out at 12:30 a.m. Monday on the fifth floor of the home at 3000 St. Antoine St.

More than 65 firefighters rushed to the scene and were able to prevent the flames from spreading.

Nobody was hurt, although two people were treated at the scene for shock.

The fire department says the fire was started accidentally when someone threw a smouldering cigarette or something similar into a trash can.

Damages are estimated at around $25,000 and were contained to one unit.
