Eugenie Bouchard has become the first Canadian woman since Helen Kelesi in 1989 to qualify for the WTA Finals, to be played from October 20 to 26 in Singapore.

Bouchard – who was eliminated in the second round at Beijing this week - accumulated enough points on the WTA tour to become on of the eight women to get an invite.

Bouchard narrowly made it and only because Svetlana Kuznetsova beat Angelique Kerber in the round of 16 in Beijing earlier Thursday.

Agnieszka Radwanska also benefitted from the result to get an invite.

Serena Williams (1) Simona Halep (2) Petra Kvitova (3) Maria Sharapova (4) are among the other qualifiers.
