Hundreds of demonstrators flooded the streets of Montreal Saturday afternoon to demand a massive reinvestment into the province’s daycare system.

The event, which was organized by the CSN Federation of Health and Social Services (FSSS-CSN), started at Saint-Louis Square in Plateau-Mont-Royal and headed through the streets to Premier Philippe Couillard’s Montreal office on McGill College Ave. downtown.

A demonstration was also held in front of Couillard's constituency office in Saint-Félicien in Lac-Saint-Jean.

CSN President Jacques Létourneau said the group is sending some 80,000 postcards for Couillard signed by parents and educators to denounce the cuts to public daycares in recent years.

The CSN has called out the government for the $300 million in cuts to the CPE network since 2014. The Couillard government reinvested an additional $30 million in November, but demonstrators said it is not nearly enough.
