A cyclist was badly hurt overnight after being hit by a car in Montreal.

According to multiple witnesses, around 10 p.m. Sunday a car heading north on Decarie Blvd. went through a red light at the intersection of Van Horne Ave.

A cyclist, reportedly in his 40s, was struck and thrown to the ground. He was rushed to hospital where police say he is in critical condition.

Police are questioning the driver to determine why he went through the red light.
