A 59-year-old cyclist looks like he will survive after being struck by an 18-wheeler at Notre Dame and Alphonse D. Roy Sts. in the east end Wednesday evening.

The driver of the 53-foot truck left the scene of the collision but was eventually located. Police have questioned the driver but are not recommending charges yet.

The accident occurred when the westbound truck turned right at 5:20 p.m., and hit the cyclist, who was also rolling west.

The victim was in hospital suffering from critical head injuries but his condition subsequently improved. .

Investigators inspected the scene. Alphonse D. Roy was closed between Notre Dame and Ste. Catherine St. during the investigation, but has since reopened.
