Construction companies are taking advantage of the Labour Day long weekend to conduct major work on roads and bridges in and around Montreal.

Half of the Mercier Bridge will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Tuesday for structural repairs. One lane in each direction will be open on the span normally used to travel from the South Shore to Montreal.

Over on the Jacques Cartier Bridge, three out of five lanes will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

Crews will be painting steel in the superstructure above the roadway.

Parts of the Turcot Interchange and the Ville Marie Expressway will be off-limits to drivers as the Greene Ave. entrance is demolished.

The Guy St. exit and one eastbound lane on the Ville Marie will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Drivers are being told to use the next exit, for Mountain St. and St. Jacques St., instead.

Atwater St. will be closed between Rene Levesque Blvd. and St. Antoine St. West from 11 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Tuesday so the work can proceed uninhibited.

A section of Highway 20 will be closed in Longueuil throughout the weekend.

Highway 20 will be closed at Roland Therrien Blvd. (exit 85) for eastbound traffic, and from the 20/25 interchange for westbound drivers.

The work begins at 10 p.m. Saturday and continues until 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

In Boucherville, the ramp connecting Highways 20 West to Highway 30 West will close at 10:30 p.m. Friday and reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday Sept. 7.
