Former Canada Alpine women’s development coach Bertrand Charest was back in court Monday.

During the hearing, a judge upheld an earlier ruling denying Charest bail.

Charest, who was arrested in March, faces 57 counts related to alleged sexual assaults of women on the ski team between 1992 and 1998.

The women were between 12 and 19 at the time of the alleged assaults.

Charest is now 50 years old, he's been in a relationship for 14 years and he has two children. He tried to argue that he's not a danger to society and that there's minimal risk of reoffending, so he should be allowed out on bail.

In Monday’s ruling, the judge said Charest’s release could undermine confidence in the justice system and ordered that he stay behind bars until his trial begins.

If found guilty, Charest could face up to 14 years in prison.
