Montreal police are investigating another firebombing attack on a downtown restaurant .

The fire department called in the arson squad around 5:15 a.m. Thursday, after what seemed to be a Molotov cocktail was found inside Cavalli restaurant on Peel St. near De Maisonneuve Blvd.

The incident caused little fire damage, shattered glass in the window sill was the only obvious sign of what had happened.

But the attack is a blow to the restaurant, as it’s the third time in three months that it has been targeted, police say.

The last attack, also a firebombing, took place May 27.

The Quebec liquor board revoked the restaurant's liquor license for 100 days in January, citing overcrowding, excessive noise, fights and gunshots outside.

The establishment was also mentioned by a witness at the Charbonneau Commission as a place where underworld associates convene.

The owner of the bar told CTV Montreal that he has no ties with criminality and blamed the attack on “young punks.”

He also said media reports about incidents at his restaurant have been exaggerated and unfair, damaging to his business and his reputation.

Police say the owner is cooperating with investigators, but so far they have no idea just who is behind the attacks on his restaurant.
