A woman from Ontario who came to Montreal to celebrate her birthday is sounding the alarm on a possible theft ring in Old Montreal.

Anita Kruger was having lunch with a friend Monday when someone stole her purse.

The purse contained a lot of money -- and a lot of memories, said Kruger.

The Cambellford, Ont.  Resident came to Montreal to celebrate her birthday with her long-time friend Trina and had $500 cash in her wallet, all her identity cards and driver's licence and a camera full of photos of the weekend, when her purse was stolen.

The key to the motorized mobility scooter she rented for the weekend stolen as well.

A security camera in the creperie in Old Montreal where they had lunch actually caught the theft.

Surveillance video clearly shows a woman in a poncho standing near the door inching closer to Kruger, then and slides her left leg over to where Kruger’s purse is on the floor.

The thief stops, looks around, and then kicks the purse over to the door. She bends down, picks it up and leaves.

“I was hysterical,” said Kruger. “I was in shock first and then hysteria because of the cash. I mean cash is cash. You know, you work hard for your dollars. But then your identity is taken and not sure what's going to happen.”

After cancelling all her cards, Kruger alerted police. She was told it's not the first time the restaurant has been targeted in this way, and wanted to warn women to be cautious with their purses.

Sun Youth is offering Kruger a cheque for $500.
