Montreal police closed several streets around Cabot Square early Thursday morning but reopened them after a bomb threat turned out to be harmless.

A suspicious package was discovered inside a building at the intersection of Atwater Ave. and Tupper St. around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

That intersection is bordered by Cabot Square and the Montreal Children's Hospital.

Police cordoned off several blocks, from Rene Levesque Blvd. to Ste. Catherine St., but did not order the evacuation of any buildings.

After two hours the bomb squad was on site to examine the package and they determined that it was not an explosive device.

With the possibility of danger eliminated police re-opened streets around 6:45 a.m.

Police have yet to say how they were alerted to the suspicious package.
