A body was pulled out of the St. Lawrence River Monday morning near Repentigny.

Police received a 9-1-1 from a passerby who saw the body floating in the river near Pointe-Aux Trembles.

Firefighters in a Zodiac boat were able to retrieve the body from of the river and brought it shore at Parc St-Laurent in Repentigny.

Police were not able to identify the body because of the state of decomposition. There was no wallet or ID on the corpse.

"We can't even tell if it's a man or a woman at this moment," said Bruno Marier, a communications officer with the Repentigny police service. "The body was sent to the morgue for an autopsy and it's the coroner who will take over the investigation at this point."

Police believe the body floated about two kilometres between the time it was spotted and it was retrieved.
