Fat, fluffy and heavy snowflakes will turn at times to rain Tuesday in Montreal.

The forecast is for up to 10 cm of snow in the Montreal region, but as the thermometer sits around 2 C there is a very good chance some of that snow will warm up enough to fall as rain instead.

Heavier snow is expected throughout the province, with 10 to 40 cm of precipitation forecast for eastern Quebec and regions in the St. Lawrence river valley.

The Charlevoix, east of Quebec City, is expected to have the heaviest snowfall.

The storm has cancelled classes for dozens of schools throughout Quebec, although none are in the Montreal region.

Temperatures will remain mild this week, with highs around 1 C and lows of -1 to -3 during the week.
