Eric Martin, 49, who went missing from a home in Pointe aux Trembles on Monday, is a former SQ officer, provincial police representative Audrey-Anne Bilodeau has confirmed to CTV Montreal.

She would give no further information concerning Martin other than to mention that he was not employed by the SQ at the time of his disappearance.

Montreal’s La Presse newspaper has reported that until 2011 Martin was second-in-command at Operation Marteau, the powerful investigation squad that unearthed considerable amounts of corruption and bribery in the construction industry.

Prior to that posting, Martin fought cybercrime with the SQ, as he is seen in a 2007 TV report explaining the risks related to offering information over the internet.

Martin stands 5’10” (1.82 m) and weighs 150 lbs (68 kgs) and his family fears for his life, as he is believed to have suicidal tendencies.

He left home at 10:30 p.m. in Pointe aux Trembles wearing nothing but slippers, pajama bottoms and a cream coloured tank top.
