Police are searching the woods in Mastigouche for any trace of a missing 83-year-old woman who has Alzheimer's disease.

Theresia Speier-Galbas of Verdun was last seen on Sept. 16.

Her family says she and her husband were heading home from Lake Brome when she disappeared.

Her husband, who suffers from dementia, was found Friday morning by a pair of hunters near the Mastigouche Wildlife Reserve, kneeling on a dirt road next to his car.

The man was taken to hospital, where he told his stepson that he had dropped off Speier-Galbas at a restaurant, but could not remember where.

Speier-Galbas and her husband traveled every day from their home in Verdun to their cottage in Lake Brome and back, frequently stopping at restaurants in LaSalle and Knowlton.

Her son last spoke to his mother last Tuesday morning, and her husband's credit card was last used at a gas station in Marieville on Tuesday night.

Police believe Speier-Galbas may be in the Mastigouche Wildlife Reserve near Saint Alexis des Monts, about 150 km north of Montreal, and they are searching the territory for signs of Speier-Galbas.
