Two people suffered injuries when their homebuilt aircraft suffered an accident on takeoff Sunday in Mirabel.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is investigating the incident, according to senior investigator Denis Deroy.
Homebuilt aircraft, sometimes called kit planes, are usually hand-built from a set of directions and are considered airworthy if given a stamp of approval from Transport Canada.
They are less regulated than other types of aircraft, as annual inspectors are signed by the owners of the planes, according to Deroy.
Approved mechanics are not required to provide maintenance for kit planes.
In comparison, more conventional aircraft must be inspected by a qualified aircraft maintenance once a year.
One person died earlier this year in Quebec after a mishap in such a plane.
