UPDATE: The Mercier Bridge reopened in both directions at 7:15 Monday morning.

Drivers heading to the South Shore on Monday morning will have to avoid the Mercier Bridge.

Transports Quebec announced Sunday that due to ongoing reinforcement work, the bridge will possibly remain under repair until noon Monday.

Repairs that began Friday at 8 p.m. were set to be completed by 5 a.m. Monday, but will take more time than expected.

This means that to help ease Monday morning rush hour traffic, two Montreal-bound lanes will be open as of midnight and there will be no traffic to the South Shore.

This should also help facilitate snow removal, because up to 15 centimetres of snow and freezing rain are expected by Monday evening.

Commuters heading to the South Shore are urged to take alternative routes, such as the Champlain Bridge and Monseigneur-Langlois Bridge.
